Job Description
Test Automation Engineer (Robotics / HIL) – Up to $40/hr
Location: Pleasanton, CA
Work Model: Hybrid – 3+ days onsite
Contract Length: 3-month contract with potential rolling extensions
Why This Role
This is a hands-on test automation role at the intersection of robotics, hardware-software integration, and release validation. You’ll work directly with physical robot fleets and HIL environments to ensure systems are test-ready, reliable, and capable of supporting continuous automated testing and release qualification.
Rather than routine hardware maintenance, this role focuses on test readiness, automation execution, and system validation, partnering closely with QA, automation, and engineering teams to keep testing pipelines moving.
Your Mission
Enable reliable, continuous testing by ensuring robot fleets are fully integrated into HIL and release automation workflows—ready to support system validation, development testing, demos, and release milestones.
What You’ll Do
HIL, System & Release Testing
Support automated and semi-automated testing using physical robots connected to HIL and system validation environments
Execute release-level testing including sanity, smoke, and regression tests
Prepare robots for test execution (configuration, firmware alignment, connectivity)
Assist with defined test scenarios and validation workflows
Test Readiness & Fleet Operations (Non-Maintenance)
Ensure robot fleets are available, configured, and operational for scheduled testing
Perform basic diagnostics and troubleshooting to unblock test execution
Escalate complex issues to engineering or hardware teams with clear context
Test Data & Issue Reporting
Collect logs, artifacts, and observations from failed or unstable test runs
Clearly report issues with supporting data to QA and engineering partners
Validate fixes by re-running automated or guided test scenarios
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Support QA, robotics, and development teams during testing, demos, and releases
Partner with automation and HIL owners to ensure smooth test execution
What You Bring
Hands-on experience working with robotics systems, test labs, or hardware-software integrated environments
Familiarity with automated testing concepts, HIL setups, or release validation workflows
Ability to follow test procedures, scripts, and automation-driven processes
Strong troubleshooting mindset and comfort working with physical systems
Clear communication skills for documenting issues and test results
Ability to obtain a U.S. Export License (if required)
What Sets You Apart
You’re reliable and take ownership of test readiness
You’re detail-oriented and precise with configurations and procedures
You solve problems methodically and communicate clearly
You collaborate naturally across QA, automation, and engineering teams
