Job Description
*The Opportunity*
Looking for a fully remote, part-time, but ongoing (long-term) contract where you can leverage your QA software engineer skills? *International candidates are encouraged to apply!*
Expatfile is looking for an eager QA software engineer to become an integral part of our team! In this role, you will develop and execute software test plans in order to identify software issues. Because we handle sensitive financial and personal data, we operate in a security and compliance focused environment (SOC 2 aligned) and need someone who is comfortable working in this environment.
*About Expatfile*
Filing U.S. taxes from abroad is notoriously painful, confusing, and expensive. At Expatfile, we’re on a mission to change that. We’ve built the most sophisticated, user-friendly tax software specifically designed for the millions of Americans living overseas.
We aren't just another tax tool; we are a high-growth FinTech startup that prioritizes security, simplicity, and speed. Because we handle sensitive financial data for users in over 100 countries, our software must be flawless. We are SOC 2 aligned and obsessed with quality.
*Why Join Us?*
* *Real Impact:* Your work directly ensures that thousands of expats can file their taxes accurately and without stress.
* *Freedom & Stability:* We offer the flexibility of a remote, part-time freelance lifestyle with the security of a long-term, permanent seat at the table.
* *Modern Stack:* No legacy baggage. We work with the latest tools (Playwright, TypeScript, LambdaTest) and move fast.
*Role focus:*
* *~70%:* Owning, maintaining, and extending our end to end test suite
* *~30%:* Manual and exploratory testing of new features and critical flows
*Responsibilities*
* Own and improve our E2E automation framework.
* Design and evolve our test strategy and coverage.
* Help define testing standards and best practices with the dev team.
* Keep tests stable and reduce flakiness.
* Write and maintain documentation around QA processes, test plans and regression suites.
* Collaborate directly with engineering and product teams.
*Tech stack:*
* Playwright + Cucumber + TypeScript for E2E tests.
* Cloud browser runner: LambdaTest.
* Modern CI pipeline and trunk based development.
*Required Skills & Experience*
* A track record in SaaS, FinTech, or other data-heavy platforms is preferred.
* Experience with Playwright, TypeScript and any BDD tools like Cucumber.
* Experience with cloud test runners such as LambdaTest, BrowserStack or Sauce Labs.
* Candidates who are able to work within the Central European Timezone (CET) working hours are preferred.
* An interest in, or experience with, complex logic systems (like tax, math, or legal rules) will be a huge advantage.
* Professional fluency in English (both written and verbal) is required for daily syncs and documentation.
* Applicants should be able to articulate 1-2 short case studies examples of similar work you have performed, ideally for SaaS or fintech products.
