The opportunity
Delaware North is searching for a Sr. Data Engineer – Support Lead to join our team at our Global Headquarters in Buffalo, New York. The Data Engineering team is tasked with collecting raw data from our various systems, transforming that data into canonical models, harmonizing, and enhancing the data to provide trusted datasets to our consumers. Our primary data product is a canonical model unifying transactions across multiple Point of Sale systems. The work this team does is the foundation of company initiatives meant to automate business processes, gather insights, and make more informed decisions. The Sr. Data Engineer – Support Lead will own the processes and standards for Support & On-Call, leading the team in providing our users a top-notch data experience.
Our technology stack includes Databricks (Pyspark), Amazon Web Services (Batch, Lambda, EBS, S3, SQS, ECS, RDS, EC2), Python, Terraform, Gitlab, ReactJS, Apache Airflow, MongoDB and Mulesoft.
Pay
Minimum – Anticipated Maximum Base Salary: $100,700 - $136,000 / year
In addition to base salary, we offer an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based, uncapped sales incentive plan. What will you do?
Own data support platform engineering, deliver platform features, improve existing pipelines, and develop new data products as needed
Establish and document standard operating procedures for investigating, resolving, and communicating data outages
Build action‑oriented alerting, extend data quality monitoring capabilities, and reduce noisy alerts
Improve the on-call experience by defining recovery SLAs, clarifying expectations, and standardizing escalation and communication
Identify trends across support tickets, implement root cause fixes, and resolve bugs and tickets directly or through delegation
Partner with clients, vendors, and internal users, contribute to design and architecture sessions, and author knowledge base documentation
More about you
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a similar field with a minimum of 4 years of experience developing data pipeline ETL processes and extensive experience following End to End Agile Development Lifecycle
Experience leading teams and projects to completion, and experience designing and developing solutions with a modern programming language such as Python
Experience with Spark and columnar data formats such as Delta or Iceberg, and extensive experience in SQL and Query writing
Experience with RESTful Web Services Data structures and formats such as JSON, XML, and parquet, with extensive experience aligning data from disparate sources with varying granularity
Extensive experience with handling large data sets, high performance computing, building high performance solutions and data integration projects
Proficiency with Unix and Linux and cloud computing experience as it relates to event-based serverless architecture; AWS preferred
Familiarity with data mapping and transformation techniques, and working knowledge of CI/CD best practices in Gitlab
Knowledge of technical specification and use case story documentation, such as UML, Domain and Entity-Relationship Modeling, and Business Process Notation
Machine learning and AI experience is a plus
Must be legally authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
