Role Overview
The Startup Investment Analyst supports venture capital investment teams by identifying and evaluating startup investment opportunities across early and growth stages. Analysts collaborate closely with partners, founders, operators, and ecosystem participants while developing foundational skills in startup diligence, venture analysis, and investment decision support.
Key Responsibilities
Identify and source startup investment opportunities through research, networks, events, accelerators, and inbound deal flow
Conduct initial outreach and introductory conversations with startup founders
Support investment due diligence, including:
Founder and team assessment
Problem definition and solution validation
Product-market fit and customer adoption analysis
Competitive landscape and differentiation evaluation
Business model and early traction review
Financial analysis and assumption development
Build basic financial models and scenario analyses for early-stage startups
Assist in preparing investment memos, opportunity summaries, and internal presentations
Contribute to market research, startup ecosystem mapping, and investment thesis development
Track portfolio startup KPIs and assist with performance monitoring and reporting
Support investment committee preparation, fundraising materials, and LP communications
Stay informed on startup trends, emerging technologies, and venture market developments
Ideal Candidate Profile
Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business, engineering, data, or another analytical discipline
Strong interest in startups, entrepreneurship, and venture investing
Prior experience in startups, venture capital, consulting, investment banking, product roles, accelerators, or relevant internships is a plus
Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
Curious, proactive, and comfortable engaging directly with founders
Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, ambiguous startup environments
