Job Description

Seeking a highly experienced, full-time VP, Senior Commercial Loan Underwriter. This role requires an accomplished credit professional who can independently underwrite complex commercial and commercial real estate loan transactions while serving as a subject matter expert on credit policy, loan structuring, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in underwriting loans from origination through closing, including initial credit approval, covenant and structure recommendations, and post-closing oversight. This position demands advanced proficiency in preparing comprehensive credit memorandums and presenting well-supported credit recommendations. Candidates must demonstrate a high level of skill in analyzing financial statements, business and personal tax returns, projections, cash flow, debt service coverage, leverage, liquidity, and collateral, as well as evaluating business models, industry trends, market conditions, and management strength. A strong command of reviewing and interpreting appraisals, environmental reports, valuations, title work, and other third-party reports is required, along with the ability to incorporate those findings into formal credit authorizations and risk assessments. This role requires extensive experience working directly with lenders and borrowers to identify issues, ask probing questions, and recommend appropriate financial structures and covenants. Construction lending experience is essential and includes general contractor qualification and analysis, creation and maintenance of detailed construction budgets, coordination and monitoring of third-party inspections, oversight of draw funding, and ongoing communication with clients, inspectors, project managers, and loan operations staff. The position also supports timely processing, credit approval, and closing of loan requests and may provide mentoring or supervisory guidance to Credit Analysts within the CAPS Department. Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related field and possess a minimum of seven years of commercial real estate and business loan underwriting experience, including at least three years focused on the senior housing sector with bond financing structure experience. Strong quantitative and analytical skills are required, including advanced financial modeling, ratio analysis, stress testing, and sensitivity analysis. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, advanced proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, database management, and familiarity with loan origination systems (preferably Baker Hill) are mandatory. Successful candidates must demonstrate excellent organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple complex transactions simultaneously and, meet tight deadlines.
