Job Description
Who We Are
Verily is a subsidiary of Alphabet that is using a data-driven approach to change the way people manage their health and the way healthcare is delivered. Launched from Google X in 2015, our purpose is to bring the promise of precision health to everyone, every day. We are focused on generating and activating data from a variety of sources, including clinical, social, behavioral and the real world, to arrive at the best solutions for a person based on a comprehensive view of the evidence. Our unique expertise and capabilities in technology, data science and healthcare enable the entire healthcare ecosystem to drive better health outcomes.
Description
In this role, you will do more than just maintain systems - you will help define the standard for how IT infrastructure is delivered at Verily. You will contribute to the design of our cloud connectivity, support the adoption of GitOps patterns, and act as a subject matter expert (SME) for our engineering teams.
You will contribute to the design of our automation pipelines and integration frameworks, and provide technical expertise for our cloud infrastructure and enterprise systems. As an AI-forward organization, you will explore and integrate AI-powered tools into workflows, automation, and operations wherever they can drive efficiency and innovation.
Responsibilities
Design & Automation: Build and standardize secure CI/CD pipelines, GitOps workflows, and Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and Puppet, leveraging AI tools to accelerate development and operations.
Cloud & Identity: Architect highly available, cost-optimized GCP environments and integrate enterprise identity solutions (Okta) including SSO, MFA, and automated user lifecycle management with FinOps best practices.
Service Platforms & DR: Serve as SME for Jira/JSM, designing automation, integrations, self-service portals, tiered cloud storage, and robust Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity strategies.
Observability & Reliability: Define SLOs/SLIs, implement a unified observability stack (Prometheus, Grafana, GCP Ops), enable intelligent alerting, and lead post-incident reviews and root cause analysis.
Security & Collaboration: Contribute to engineering excellence through code reviews and cross-functional collaboration, partnering with Security to implement Zero Trust architectures and ensure regulatory compliance (HIPAA/GDPR).
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
7+ years in Systems Engineering, SRE, or Infrastructure Design with strong GCP expertise (Compute Engine, VPC Shared Networks, IAM, Cloud Functions) and deep cloud networking knowledge (VPCs, VPNs, Interconnects, BGP, load balancing).
Expert-level CI/CD and GitOps experience with senior proficiency in Terraform, Puppet, and scripting (Python/Go/Bash) to design scalable, production-grade automation.
Advanced Okta expertise (SSO, SAML/OIDC, lifecycle management, directory integrations), deep experience with Jira/JSM (automation, REST APIs, JQL, ITSM), and strong cloud storage design across object, block, and file systems.
Proven use of AI-powered tools (Copilot, Gemini, Claude Code) to boost productivity, with a forward-looking approach to integrating AI into IT operations and workflows.
Preferred Qualifications
Deep understanding of RESTful APIs, webhooks, and event-driven integrations for connecting enterprise systems (Okta, Jira, Slack, Google Workspace, AI platforms).
Strong programming skills in Go (Golang) or Python for building custom operators, CLI tools, or glue code.
Experience building and scaling cloud-native automation and integration platforms on managed services.
Advanced experience with Jira Automation rules, ScriptRunner, or Forge apps for extending Jira/JSM capabilities.
Experience working with AI platforms (OpenAI API, Anthropic Claude API, Google Vertex AI), LLM integration patterns, or designing infrastructure for AI/ML pipelines and model deployment.
Google Professional Cloud Engineer, Okta Certified Professional, or equivalent enterprise infrastructure and identity management certifications.
