Job Description
*About the role*
We're a 50-person cybersecurity company that helps software vendors deploy into Azure Gov and AWS GovCloud under FedRAMP Moderate/High requirements.
This is the first hire in a new Platform Engineering function. You'll build internal tooling that gives our operations team better visibility into partner deployments, automate repetitive infrastructure work, conduct R&D on emerging infrastructure components, and take on technical projects directly from the CTO. You'll work closely with internal teams to understand their pain points and build solutions — but you'll operate independently and own your deliverables end to end.
This is a hands-on development role, not a leadership role. You'll be writing code, building tools, and shipping.
*Core Responsibilities*
· Build internal tooling and automation that improves operational visibility across partner deployments
· Work with Project Hosts engineers to identify bottlenecks and build solutions
· Own technical projects assigned by the CTO — scoped, executed, and delivered independently
· Work across Azure Gov and AWS GovCloud environments
· Integrate with existing platform components (AD, ADFS, SQL, monitoring/SIEM tooling)
· Contribute to the evolution of our internal platform as we scale
Specific Infrastructure Initiatives:
* Research & Development: Conduct POCs on infrastructure components (e.g., FIPS-enabled NETFW for Azure/AWS IL5 environments, LetsEncrypt automation for AWS)
* Onboarding & Compliance Pipeline: Create and connect internal tooling to streamline onboarding for both Project Hosts staff and customers
* Deployment Automation: Validate, document, and roll out infrastructure templates with Cloud Services
* Architecture Review Automation: Codify Enforcement Memos and automate architecture review processes
* Container Orchestration: Support AKS configuration, updates, and security hardening
*Required Skills*
*Technical Expertise:*
* *Cloud Platform Proficiency:*
* 4-7 years of engineering experience with demonstrated ability to ship software (internal tools, automation, or developer/ops tooling)
* Strong competency in both Azure and AWS (experience in Government Cloud environments preferred)
* *Development & Scripting:*
* Proficiency in Python, PowerShell, or similar scripting languages
* Experience building internal tools, automation, or developer/ops tooling
* Ability to integrate with REST APIs and existing platform components
* *Problem-Solving & Learning:*
* Raw aptitude to learn unfamiliar technologies quickly
* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
* Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills
* *Infrastructure as Code (IaC):*
* Terraform
* ARM/Bicep, CloudFormation, or equivalent IaC tools
* Ability to translate SIEM hardening requirements into Terraform configurations
* *Container & Orchestration:*
* Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) or EKS experience (configuration, security, operations)
* Understanding of Kubernetes ingress controllers and networking
*Optional Skills*
*Advanced Certifications & Experience:*
* IL5 (Impact Level 5) experience or DoD compliance background
* AWS GovCloud or Azure Government Cloud certifications
* Security certifications (e.g., CISSP, CEH, Security+)
*Specialized Technical Skills:*
* Next-Generation Firewall (NGFW) experience (FIPS-enabled configurations)
* Certificate management automation (e.g., ACME protocol, LetsEncrypt integration)
* Active Directory/ADFS configuration and troubleshooting
*Operational Tooling:*
* Experience building operational dashboards and monitoring solutions
* DevOps pipeline development (CI/CD automation)
* GitOps workflows and version control best practices
*Soft Skills & Collaboration:*
* Cross-functional collaboration with Operations, Security, and Customer Success teams
* Experience working in fast-paced, high-compliance environments
Pay: $85,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
