Job Description

Position Overview:

Obra Real Estate is looking for an Accounting Analyst to join our Chicago office on a full-time basis. This is a dynamic role with opportunity for rapid growth. At the outset, this person will be integral to the day-to-day accounting procedures for our loan portfolio. This role will collaborate closely with all facets of the ORE team, as well as the wider Obra accounting team. Over time, the successful candidate will take ownership of various aspects of our mortgage portfolio operation, including designing process improvements and building out new functionalities as the portfolio expands and diversifies.

Responsibilities:

Handle day-to-day processing of our growing portfolio of loans. Functions include interest, fee and principal balance calculations, adjustments related to workouts or modifications, accounts payable processing and financial reporting preparation
Interface with various parties including borrowers, partners, and investors to answer detailed questions, generate statements, and apply payments
Prepare asset and debt reconciliations, analyze fluctuations in financial statement line items, book general ledger entries and perform other duties as part of monthly close process
Work closely with the accounting team to synchronize data between loan software and the company’s general ledger and banking systems
Augment a centralized loan servicing function by working collaboratively with a variety of teams, including originations, underwriting, asset management, and legal teams
Prepare regular liquidity forecasts
Conduct ad hoc analyses such as payoff requests, IRR calculations, and various calculations for borrowers and investors
Serve as a key member of team driving strategic initiatives (e.g., new funds, financing arrangements, etc.)
Contribute to annual budgeting and re-forecast procedures
Identify areas for workflow improvements and implement solutions

Qualifications:

We anticipate continued growth in this business and this role will be expected to grow with it as it becomes increasingly complex and multi-faceted. The ideal candidate for this role will possess strong interpersonal skills to work well with a wide variety of team members and functions, will be extremely detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy in their work and will be a driven self-starter capable of excelling in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have the following profile:

4-year college degree in a top 25 accounting program
Advanced Excel skills, including modeling and advanced formula-building
Ability to understand the intricacies of each bespoke loan and apply critical thinking to accurately capture all elements from an accounting and loan servicing standpoint
Excellent written/oral communication skills and demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams to solve complex loan servicing needs
Experience working with legal documents to support applicable loan servicing procedures
Experience with Yardi preferred

The expected base salary range for this role is outlined below. In addition to the base salary, total compensation may include a discretionary bonus based on performance. This range reflects a variety of factors, including years of relevant experience, education, and other qualifications pertinent to the position.

$65,000-$75,000
