The Indiana Health Information Exchange (IHIE) is one of the nation’s largest health information exchange organizations. IHIE has been around for over a decade, with its roots dating back 30 years. As a not-for-profit HIE, we enable hospitals, physicians, laboratories, payers, and other health service providers to avoid redundancy and deliver faster, more efficient, higher quality healthcare to patients in Indiana. Indiana Health Information Exchange’s (IHIE) Solution Engineering team develops technologies that directly impact the quality, safety, and efficiency of healthcare. We are seeking a Dev Ops Engineer II (Solution Engineer II) with expertise in design, development, maintenance, and support of modern delivery pipelines. This position will focus on adding new capabilities for internal, addressing production issues, and migrating/modernizing components of the existing infrastructure. Summary: Works closely with the IHIE Developers, Support/Integration Teams, and partners to design, develop, document, test, improve, automate, debug, secure and modernize delivery pipelines. This role will exercise strong leadership, analytical, troubleshooting, administration, and testing skills across multiple development teams and will provide long term vision towards providing effective development workflows across the organization.

Essential Functions:

Provides technical leadership by establishing best practices, standards, and process improvements that enhance team performance. Leads forward‑looking initiatives focused on improving security, efficiency, automation, and scalability across systems and workflows.
Advises on and applies best practices across the DevOps lifecycle by leveraging a broad understanding of platforms, tools, and features spanning infrastructure, build and deployment, monitoring, and operations to support efficient and reliable delivery of products and services.
Implements, configures, and manages build and deployment processes—including source control practices (branching, merging, tagging), Bitbucket, Azure Artifacts, Jenkins, Maven, Archiva, build automation, and continuous integration—while troubleshooting deployment and infrastructure issues and supporting rollback and disaster‑recovery procedures to ensure reliable delivery.
Implements and manages centralized secrets‑management solutions—such as Vault, AWS Secrets Manager, or CyberArk—by enforcing best practices for handling credentials (API keys, tokens, certificates, and passwords), automating the full lifecycle of secrets (generation, rotation, and revocation), and configuring monitoring and audit controls to ensure compliance with security policies and prevent unauthorized access.
Utilizes Application Performance Monitoring (APM) tools to monitor, diagnose, and optimize application performance by interpreting real‑time metrics such as latency, error rates, and resource utilization, ensuring software operates reliably and aligns with business outcomes.
Applies advanced software development practices by implementing agile methodologies, including structured code reviews and effective use of source control systems to ensure high‑quality, maintainable code.
Provides faster feedback to developers to improve the speed and output of testing methodologies.
Ensures software being released into production meets quality and security standards with the appropriate approvals throughout the change process.
Address and provide best practices for incident response with examples of handling outages, alerts, and producing RCA analysis in a collaborative environment.

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field
Experience:
5+ years’ experience with Java/OOP and related application development frameworks
5+ years’ experience with dev ops management
Extensive experience with system administration and security monitoring
Skills/Characteristics:

Strong attention to detail
Ability to work in a cross-functional team
Ability to learn new and complicated technologies, techniques, tools, and business processes quickly
Experience handling demanding projects and juggling multiple priorities
Strong communication skills

CI/CD Tools: Jenkins, GitLab CI, CircleCI
Scripting Languages: Python, Bash, PowerShell
Monitoring Tools: Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, Datadog
Security Practices: Familiarity with container security, IAM, and vulnerability scanning
Version Control: Git and Git workflows
Preferred:
Experience in healthcare helpful
Experience with containerization to deploy and manage applications using technologies like Docker and Kubernetes
Relevant certifications to reflect expertise in DevOps, APM, or secrets management
Experience with AI tools and techniques
