Job Description

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented QA Testing Analyst to oversee testing operations and reporting for Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) gate systems at our Queens facility. This is a client-facing role that requires exceptional communication and technical writing skills to document, analyze, and clearly report testing results to MTA stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have strong manual testing experience, the ability to work independently and proactively resolve issues, and excellent problem-solving skills. You will be working alone most of the time and must be self-directed, responsible, and reliable.

This is primarily an on-site role based in Queens, NY with occasional travel to MTA stations or MTA headquarters in the New York City area.

Key Responsibilities
Testing & Quality Assurance
Oversee and execute manual functional testing of MTA gate systems at Queens facility
Perform black box and grey box testing methodologies on gate systems across various configurations
Identify test conditions and create comprehensive test cases for gate functionality
Execute manual and automation tests according to established test plans
Test various system configurations to validate functionality across different settings and scenarios
Create and condition test data for effective test execution
Evaluate test results and perform retesting as needed
Hands-on testing of hardware/software integrated systems is a plus
Testing Documentation & Reporting (Critical Requirement)
Write clear, comprehensive, and professional test result reports for MTA stakeholders
Document test activities, findings, and outcomes with a high level of accuracy and detail
Build and maintain structured test execution reports, defect summaries, and quality dashboards
Translate complex technical findings into business-friendly language for non-technical audiences
Propose and implement reporting methods to manage gate testing operations
Submit regular status reports on testing activities and findings
Identify and report risks proactively with clear documentation and impact analysis
Client Collaboration & Issue Resolution (Heavy Client-Facing)
Work directly with MTA to understand, explain, and document problems found in gate systems
Serve as the primary point of contact for MTA regarding testing activities and results
Reproduce issues reported by MTA for analysis and resolution
Analyze root causes of system failures and document findings clearly for both technical and business audiences
Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to MTA stakeholders through written reports and verbal presentations
Proactively identify potential issues and propose solutions before they escalate
Coordinate with internal teams to address identified issues and track resolution progress
Present testing findings, recommendations, and risk assessments to MTA leadership
Process Management & Independent Work
Manage day-to-day implementation of testing processes at Queens facility independently
Work autonomously with minimal supervision; must be self-directed and reliable
Maintain comprehensive documentation of test activities and outcomes
Validate and close applicable issues as appropriate
Take ownership of testing operations and demonstrate accountability for quality outcomes
Proactively escalate risks and blockers with clear documentation and recommendations

Required Qualifications
Experience & Education
2 to 4 years of experience in manual testing (QA/testing role)
Sound understanding of software development and testing life cycle (SDLC/STLC)
Experience in defect reporting and management
Proven experience working with clients or stakeholders to reproduce, analyze, and resolve issues
Experience testing systems across various configurations and settings
Strong background in technical writing and test documentation
Technical Skills
Hands-on experience writing SQL queries for data validation and analysis
Hands-on experience with test management tools such as TFS (Team Foundation Server), Jira, qTest, or similar
Good knowledge of testing methodology and Agile methodology
Experience with hardware/system testing (gates, access control systems, or similar hardware-software integrated systems is a plus)
Ability to analyze system logs and troubleshoot technical issues
Report building and data presentation skills

Location Requirements
Primary work location: Queens, NY facility (on-site position)
Occasional travel to MTA stations or MTA headquarters in the New York City area (not a significant part of the role)
Must be local to Queens, NY area or willing to commute daily
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required
No company vehicle provided — personal vehicle required for occasional travel
Contract Details
Duration: Initial 6-month contract with potential for extension
Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday (standard business hours)
Compensation: $45–$50 per hour (mileage reimbursement for travel to MTA locations)
This is an on-site position — remote work not available
